Well, I have officially hit the wall. With the winter weather it is so tough to get motivated for a good running workout. I am on week 10 of the 12 week CrossFit endurance plan, and I keep telling myself I am not a quitter only two more weeks.
What I really want to do is curl up on the couch with a blanket, movie, glass of wine and eat some tasty soup, or bake or something. Comfort food, comfort zone, you be the judge. Hey, there is nothing wrong with a little comfort now and then :-).
Yesterday I made it to the track for the workout… oh, boy it was like pulling teeth. I warmed up a couple of laps and still didn’t feel like moving any faster, my rear and hamstrings were a bit tired from the squats during the WOD at 5:30am which made it all the more difficult.
I had my IPOD on the most upbeat music I could locate and away I went. 8x300m with 2 min rest in-between. The first two were slower about a 6 min pace, and then I picked it up a bit and finished the rest at right around 1min or just under (about a 5:10ish pace.)
I was seriously glad that workout was over. I just wanted to come home and have a good piece of Jill’s cake and coffee :-). BTW, here is what is left of that cake- pretty good breakfast.
Here today… gone tomorrow.. right :-).
I have tried all the “tricks” I can think of to get myself psyched up and ready for a good run over the past few weeks.
Including:
New music on the IPOD:
I posted on motivating tunes and changing the playlist a few times… having kids choose music, hummm that worked out moderately well.
Altering time and location of my runs:
Track versus Road… the track is motivating but the road offers scenery- cheesy pic I know.
Establish a goal, sign up for a race:
This motivates me because I don’t want to suck wind and want to have a good time.
Sign up for CrossFit: This is very motivating if you have even a little competitive streak or are just wanting to work on overall fitness for health and life.
Crossfit Roseburg, if you are local, otherwise do a google search on CrossFit gyms or boxes (I was corrected recently in an email, I guess it is a “box”) in your area. I am going to have to do a little research on why they call it a “box” what the heck does that mean anyway? As far as I can tell it is a gym… all this lingo makes me crazy.
Join a Team: This is something that CrossFit has given me which has been very motivating ( a coach and a team/group of people to workout with.) I don’t typically like to run in a group as that is my along/think time but the encouragement could be very helpful for others.
Overall health and well-being: This is a great motivator, we should want to be able to keep up with our children and complete all of the activities we love. I remember when I turned 35 not long ago thinking… wow, it is getting tougher to keep up with these squirts, I better get my act together. Sure enough, the time has come, they can do just about anything I can do so I best keep my rear in gear!
They watched me run above in September… and they ran in late October.
Question of the Day:
Are there any other motivational tactics you can think of? Please share, just think you might be helping someone who reads this find just the motivating factor they need to get moving!
